Easy classroom crafting with POSCA

Because you can treat your POSCAs just like paint, when one colour dries you can overlay with details, outlines, and highlights. Plus, while your POSCA is fresh and wet, you can blend it with a brush or sponge, or mix with another POSCA.

Spotty mugs

This is a great starter make for children or simple for people who aren’t so confident with their drawing skills. We’re practicing with easy masking and layering tricks, these simple designs can be a good way to build confidence in pen and mark-making skills. By combining different coloured dots, in various ways, the overall finish can look very accomplished so everyone can be proud of what they have achieved.

What you’ll need:

How to make:

1. For the horizontal lined mug, tear strips of masking tape and wrap around the mug. Once the tape is secure, use red and blue Poscas to dot along the exposed surfaces.

2. To make the candy-striped mug, fix tape diagonally across the mug. Loosely dot the red Poscas along non-taped areas. Then apply pink Posca dots in the spaces between.

3. Create the fizzy design with the yellow, pink and red Poscas. Cluster dots at the bottom and reduce the number of marks you make as you reach the top.

4. Bake mugs in the oven at 160ºC for 45 mins. Leave to cool then varnish.

Hanging decorations

This super simple decoration project is a great way of combining tactile clay crafts with easy colouring in. We’ve used stars here, but you can use any shape to cut out. Why not experiment with different indentations on the clay for you to fill in with your coloured Posca pens?

What you’ll need:

POSCA Standard Classroom Pack
Air-dry clay
Rolling pin
Cookie cutter (we’ve used a star shape here but you can use a variety of shapes)
Toothpics
Pen lid
Varnish

How to make:

1. Roll out the air-dry clay to about a 3mm thickness. We have used a star-shaped cookie cutter to cut out the shapes but this will work on any shape.

2. While the clay is still soft, make a hole in the top of the shapes with a toothpick or skewer. This will be where you can thread through wire or twine for hanging the star.

3. Now use a pen lid to make circular indents into the shape. Leave the stars to dry overnight.

4. Take the dry shapes and use your Poscas to fill in the circle indents.

5. When the paint has dried, brush clear varnish onto the decorations to preserve and harden your hanging stars.
