Accessing cloud services from AWS and AWS partners

Amazon Cloud Services (AWS) offer public sector organisations and charities a secure and cost-effective way to modernise their IT infrastructure. By leveraging AWS, organisations can easily gain access to cutting-edge technologies such as AI, advanced analytics, and contact centre solutions, enabling improved service delivery.

AWS provides flexibility to start small, and scale as needed, offering public sector organisations and charities access to their public cloud services. This includes compute, storage, AI and Contact Centre as a Service (CCaaS) solutions through YPO’s Cloud Services, AI, Data Centre Management and Transformation Solution – 1126 - Framework. AWS is listed on Lot 1 of the framework, and AWS partners offer AWS cloud services and wrap-around support through Lots 2 and 3. In this blog, we outline five key benefits for organisations accessing AWS cloud services via this framework.

1. Access the latest cloud and AI technologies

The framework provides a route for public sector organisations and charities to procure AWS services quickly and easily, using either direct award or further competition. Around 200 AWS cloud services are available, including AI services like those accessed by Swindon Borough Council to connect with residents with learning difficulties, cognitive impairments and/or low literacy levels. Organisations can access compute, storage and database services to implement scalable, secure cloud infrastructure like Bedfordshire Police did, to deliver modern policing services. Innovative services like Amazon Connect can be procured to transform your contact centre. NHS Midlands and Lancashire worked with an AWS partner to reduce patient waiting times by 9-14% following their implementation of Amazon Connect. CCaaS solutions can improve customer engagement and deliver operational efficiencies, such as reducing wait times and enhancing overall customer satisfaction.

2. Get support at the start of your cloud journey or for complex cloud migrations

Public sector organisations migrating to AWS and modernising on AWS require expertise, tools, and expert guidance to align core business objectives with IT strategy. Customers can accelerate this journey by working with AWS partners to meet their unique business needs, ensuring a smooth transition and long-term success. Lot 2 and 3 of YPO’s framework can be used to access a wide range of professional support from experienced AWS partners. Whether you’re new to cloud, planning your next cloud migration, or want to explore advanced cloud solutions, these partners can provide the guidance and resources needed to achieve your business goals efficiently and securely.

3. Secure discounts and unlock investments to expedite your digital transformation journey

Public sector organisations and charities can take advantage of substantial discounts on AWS services and additional benefits such as complementary security workshops and AWS cloud credits via the AWS One Government Value Agreement (OGVA). Organisations can access OGVA through a call-off contract with AWS or with an AWS partner. This approach ensures that organisations receive tailored support and expert guidance throughout the entire procurement process, ensuring the benefits of AWS technologies are maximised while maintaining compliance and cost efficiency. By leveraging OGVA, public sector bodies and charities can confidently modernise their IT infrastructure and deliver better support services to the communities they serve.

4. Experiment with new services and develop proofs of concept

By utilising OGVA, YPO customers can receive up to $25k in AWS credits to trial new services and/or develop proofs of concept, for example by trialling one of AWS’ broad set of innovative AI services. Through this, organisations can explore emerging technologies, test new solutions, and build a strong business case for future investment. Complementary AWS Skill Builder licences are also available to upskill staff in AWS cloud services, providing easy access to courses, learning paths, and other useful resources.

5. Drive sustainability with the AWS cloud

AWS infrastructure is up to 4.1 times more energy efficient than on premises and can reduce workloads’ carbon footprint by up to 99%. 100% of electricity consumed by Amazon was matched with renewable energy sources in 2024, for the second consecutive year. Organisations can track, measure, and review the carbon emissions generated from their AWS usage using the Customer Carbon Footprint Tool. This tool helps organisations simplify their carbon tracking by automatically receiving emissions data from their AWS account via data exports, eliminating the need to manually collect data across multiple accounts.
